Jonas
Jonas is the main character. He is also the receiver of memory. He takes all of the memories, so the community won't have them. They are the memories from a different world. A world with love, snow, and hate. In the story Jonas learns more about himself, and his life. He also learns more about where he lives. At one time he thought the community was perfect, but now he is changing his mind. With his new memories and new feelings, what will he do? |
Gabe
Gabe is a little baby. He cries at night, making the community want to release him. Instead they decide to give him a chance. Gabe moves in with Jonas and his family. They can only keep him until he stops crying at night. Gabe is special because he has pale eyes. Will Gabe stop crying? Will he ever find a permanent home? Will he get released? |
Asher
Asher is the same age as Jonas. They are best friends, and spend a lot of time together. Asher is crazy, silly, and loves to play. He has a lot of energy. Then he gets his assignment. He likes it, but gets a little jealous of Jonas. Jonas has an important job. Will they stay friends? Will Asher learn that the receiver of memory is not a great job? Will he still get jealous of Jonas? |
Fiona
Fiona is friends with Jonas and Asher. They are all the same age. They spend a lot of time together. Then Jonas starts to have feelings for her. He likes her more than a friend. Does she like Jonas too? Will they just stay friends? Now with the their assignment, will they still find time to be together? |
Lily
Lily is younger than her brother, Jonas. She is crazy, and loves her family. In the feeling share time, she is angry. It only takes the family seconds, and she is happy again. Jonas will remember that day for a long time. It is the day he thinks about when he learns what real feelings are. He knows that if they had real feelings like in the memory, it would take longer for them to heal. |
Rosemary
Rosemary is a girl, and very important in the story. She was the receiver of memory before Jonas, the one who failed. Nobody will talk about her, because she got released. It is important because now there is pressure on Jonas. He can't fail like Rosemary did. It also makes the giver go slow in giving the memories, he is being extra cautious. Jonas wants to know what happened to her. Why did she fail, and how? He asks, but finds no answers. Then the giver finally tells him. |
